An online platform for screening job candidates. You build an assessment from multiple-choice questions, written answers, recorded video answers, hands-on IT tasks, coding tasks, thinking games and skills-lab tests (reasoning, judgement, personality, typing, spreadsheets, English and more), send candidates a link, and compare their results in one place.
In a few minutes. Press Start from a role pack, pick a job (for example IT Support, Customer Support, Sales or Data Analyst) and you get a ready screening made from our question bank and skills-lab tests. Review the questions, then share the link or invite people by email. New accounts can also add a ready sample assessment in one click to see how everything looks.
Ready screenings for every track we offer: 44 packs covering jobs (IT Support, DevOps, Cloud, Developers, Data, AI, QA, Cybersecurity, Customer Support and Success, Sales, Marketing, HR, Recruiting, Product, Design, Finance, Operations and more), each developer stack (C#, Java, C++, Django, Python, Rails, React, Node.js, with coding tasks), IT and networking tracks (Google, Azure, AWS, CCNA, CCNP, network, with hands-on tasks) and an English level test. Each pack picks questions from the bank plus matching tests. You can change anything afterwards, and save any assessment as your own role pack to reuse it.
Yes. Write your own, or import them from an Excel or CSV file (up to 500 rows at a time). Imported questions are kept in Your company’s questions and can be added to any assessment.
Copy the assessment link and share it anywhere, or invite people by email one at a time or in bulk (up to 50 per paste). Each emailed invite has its own private link. You can also make a fresh link if an old one was shared too widely.
Yes, for each assessment. One go means it must be finished in one sitting. Otherwise candidates may stop between parts with Save & exit or an emailed link and continue later. Both run on one overall countdown.
Yes, if you switch it on. Under Scheduling you add interview times; candidates get a link to pick a free slot, they receive a reminder email the day before, and you see who booked what. It is optional and off by default.
Open Shortlist on an assessment, choose a pass mark and how many people to suggest, and HireVation lists the best finished candidates with any warnings (such as leaving the tab). Nothing happens until you approve: no one is rejected or emailed automatically. You can also star candidates by hand.
Yes. From the shortlist you can create a read-only link that expires after 3 to 30 days. The manager sees only the people you approved: their names and, if you allow it, scores and a short result. No email addresses, answers, notes or recordings. You can switch the link off at any time.
Each candidate’s overall score and rank, a score for each topic, every answer, written and spoken transcripts, video answers and session recordings, the start photo, AI notes, and warnings such as leaving the tab or a covered camera. Analytics show where your whole candidate pool is strong or weak, and you can download everything as a CSV file.
Yes, on the Business and Enterprise plans. A head of HR can invite recruiters by email, within the seats included in your package, and choose whether each person may build question assessments and use video interviews. Everyone sees the team’s assessments and candidates, and a team page shows who has done what.
Yes. In Settings, switch on candidate alerts and choose email (up to five addresses), Slack, Microsoft Teams, or all three. Each alert shows the candidate, the assessment, the score and a link to the result. A Send a test alert button checks it.
Yes. Recruiters on a paid plan can post jobs on the public Jobs board. A job stays up for 60 days unless you close it. Candidates apply with their saved resume, and candidates who set a job alert are emailed when a matching job appears.
Only if they agree. You can ask an applicant to share their results; they decide, and if they say yes you get a private link that expires and that they can switch off.
Yes. Assessments show your company name, and your logo if you add one in Settings. On camera-on tests, the candidate’s live camera panel is marked with your company name.
Not yet. Today you can export results as a CSV file and receive alerts by email, Slack or Teams. If you need a specific ATS, tell us which one at support@hirevation.com.
Multiple choice (one or several correct), true/false, rating scales, written answers, recorded video answers, hands-on technical tasks, coding tasks, cognitive games and skills-lab exercises. One assessment can mix them, up to 45 questions in total.
More than 70 simulated IT jobs: find an IP address in Windows settings, type commands, change DNS, clear a browser cache, order troubleshooting steps, match connectors and more. Candidates click, type and drag on realistic screens, and the server marks each step.
More than 150 tasks across 8 stacks (C#/.NET, Java, C++, Django, Python, Ruby on Rails, React and Node.js). Candidates fill gaps in real code, spot the buggy line and pick the fix, say what code prints, put lines in order and read errors. They do not write whole programs.
Short, automatically scored games that measure how people think: memory, reaction speed, number series, focus, mental maths, N-back, visual search and task switching. Fresh numbers every time, so answers cannot be shared.
Structured tests beyond the question bank: reasoning (numbers, words, logic), situational judgement, personality and work style, typing, data entry and spreadsheets, structured behavioural interviews, case studies and in-tray exercises, English writing, speaking and listening, and work samples and role-plays.
The candidate answers a few questions aloud. Their browser turns speech into text, and the text is rated on task, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and clarity. Pronunciation and accent are not judged. If the browser cannot capture speech, the candidate can type instead and the recruiter is told.
The candidate chats with a simulated customer, manager or prospect for a few turns, as they would at work, and the conversation is rated against a published scale. The recruiter sees the whole conversation.
Each question is shown on screen and read aloud in a natural voice (you choose female or male). The candidate records the answer in their browser, can pause and resume, watch it back and re-record before saving. Each question has its own time limit, and video answers can add up to 30 minutes per assessment.
The candidate agrees to be recorded before starting, sees themselves in a small panel beside the questions, and the whole session is recorded with sound. The recruiter can watch it with the results. You can turn proctoring on or off for any assessment in the question editor. Recordings are deleted automatically after 60 days.
Video and camera-on assessments start with a quick photo so the recruiter can check that the person in the answers is the person who started. A black or covered photo is refused.
No. While speaking they only see how many words were captured, so a misheard word does not make them nervous. After saving, the captured text is shown once for a few seconds.
A laptop or desktop computer with a recent Chrome or Edge browser works best, one screen only, and a steady internet connection. If the assessment has video questions or the camera is on, you need a working camera and microphone. Nothing to install.
Open the link from your email or from the recruiter. With a personal invite you confirm your name and email; with an open link you confirm your email with a one-time code. Read the rules, tick that you agree, and (for video or camera-on tests) take a quick photo.
No. Use your laptop or computer screen alone. In browsers that can detect it (such as Chrome and Edge), the assessment will not start, and stops straight away, while a second screen is connected, until you unplug it.
It depends on the assessment. Some must be finished in one sitting. Others let you Save & exit on the screen between parts, or email yourself a link to continue. The overall countdown keeps running while you are away, so finish before the time shown.
All question times are added into one countdown, shown at the top of the screen with the time you should finish by. When it reaches zero your answers so far are sent automatically.
No. Questions move one way: once you save an answer and go on, it is final. If you skip a question by mistake, its number turns red and you can answer it before you finish.
Leaving the tab is counted and the recruiter can see it. The first time is a warning. After that, the test goes back to question 1, and if you leave too many times the assessment ends and your answers so far are sent. Close other apps and notifications before you start.
When you finish you get a reference number and your performance sheet. You can open your report again for 90 days at Find my report with that number and your email.
Yes. Create a free candidate account to start a 3-day free trial: pick one track, take as many random practice tests as you like, and get a graded performance sheet.
Yes, with one click from your report. LinkedIn does not check it, so the link carries the proof: anyone can open it to see the real result.
A paid plan for candidates, coming soon. It adds certificates employers can verify, interview preparation based on your resume, and a private vault where you keep your best recordings and share them with employers through private links. Uploading your resume is free.
Yes. Browse the Jobs board and apply with your saved resume. You can also switch on a job alert to be emailed when a matching job is posted. Your test results are only shared with an employer if you agree.
Yes, for 30 days after the interview, from your candidate area (watch only).
The employer who invited you. HireVation shows them your results; it does not make hiring decisions. If you think something went wrong, ask the recruiter to review your answers.
Multiple-choice, true/false, games, hands-on IT tasks, coding tasks and most skills-lab tests are marked automatically by fixed rules on our server. Written and spoken answers, interviews and work samples are rated by an AI assistant against a published 1-to-5 scale, and a recruiter can read the answer and change any rating.
Step by step on the server. Every step allows two tries: right first time scores full marks, right on the second try scores part marks (with a hint), and after a second wrong try the step is saved as not solved and the candidate moves on.
The AI never watches the video. If the candidate’s browser turns their speech into text, the AI rates that text. The recruiter always has the recording and can watch it and judge it themselves.
No. HireVation does not analyse faces, emotions, body language, voice tone or accent. Spoken answers are rated only on the words, and small speech-recognition mistakes are ignored. Read more on our Fair use of AI page.
No. Scores and AI notes help recruiters compare. People make hiring decisions. Even the suggested shortlist waits for a recruiter to approve each name.
They are written for this platform from general professional knowledge, not copied from exam providers or vendors. They are checked for format and balance automatically. For important hiring decisions we recommend that an expert in your field reviews the questions you use.
No. The English tests are work-English checks for screening. They are not IELTS, TOEFL or official CEFR results.
No. These tracks cover topics commonly associated with those names. They are not affiliated with or endorsed by Cisco, Amazon, Microsoft or Google.
Several checks work together. One screen only: a second monitor stops the test until it is unplugged (in Chrome and Edge). Stay on the tab: leaving is counted, first a warning, then back to question 1, and too many times ends the test. One overall countdown, with a time limit on each question. Answers are final once saved. Answer keys never reach the browser, and games use fresh numbers each time. Pasting is blocked in typing tests. With the camera on, the session is recorded, a start photo is taken, and the test pauses if the camera is covered or black. Personal invite links are private to each candidate.
No tool can. HireVation shows signals worth a look, such as leaving the tab or a covered camera. Treat them as reasons to review, not as proof.
Each personal link is tied to the email it was sent to, and the person must type that email to start. Someone who has the forwarded email could still use it, which is why camera-on tests take a start photo for you to check.
Everyone taking the same assessment gets the same kind of questions and time, and personal traits such as age, gender or nationality are never asked or used in scoring. HireVation has not yet had an independent bias audit, so check the rules that apply to your hiring (for example in New York City or the EU) and keep a person in charge of every decision.
On our hosting provider’s database (Render) and private file storage (Cloudflare). Emails are sent through Resend and the text of written or spoken answers goes to Anthropic for AI rating. Full details are on Security & data and in the Privacy Policy.
Only the recruiter and their team who invited the candidate. Recordings open through short-lived private links, not public addresses. Hiring-manager shortlist links never include recordings.
Interview and session recordings are deleted automatically 60 days after the assessment, so save anything you need before then.

See the pricing section for the current plans. Each plan includes a number of assessments a month, where one assessment means one candidate taking one assessment of any type (questions, video, camera-on, games, hands-on or coding).
Employer plans are switched on after a short demo for now. Request a demo and we will set up your account.
One assessment can hold up to 45 questions of any type, and video answers can add up to 30 minutes in total.
No. Your monthly allowance counts candidates you sent assessments to, so deleting an assessment or a candidate afterwards does not give it back.
